Marilyn Marjorie Shay went to be with the Lord on May 22, 2021. Marilyn was born July 1, 1927 in Maloy, IA, the second of five children, to John C. and Winifred (Hubbard) Shay.
She attended Maloy High School, graduating in 1943 with her sister, Catherine. There were nine graduates that year. After graduation she and her sister took correspondence courses in Secretarial and Business. They moved to Des Moines to live with their Uncle Charlie and worked for an insurance company.
Leaving Des Moines, Marilyn settled in Denver, CO. She loved Colorado and worked for the Small Business Administration for over 30 years. Marilyn enjoyed good food and getting together with friends for potluck dinners. During her free time, she loved to swim and drive her little red Mustang all over the city. Her overseas adventures took her to Greece and Spain. Marilyn was a member of the Catholic church, sang in the choir at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Maloy, devoted to her faith attended church and church functions.
Marilyn left Colorado for San Marcos, TX in 2010, moving to Brookdale Assisted Living. There she enjoyed playing bingo and participating in group exercises with her friends.
She loved desserts, especially anything with chocolate. Over the past 10 years Marilyn enjoyed getting together with her family in Texas during the holidays.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Clem and Winifred Shay, a brother, Thomas Shay, sister, Margaret Rose (Kettle), and a nephew, Timothy Shay. Those left to mourn her passing are her sister Catherine Mulcahy, of California and brother, John (Jean) Shay, of Texas, four nieces and six nephews. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Marilyn will be laid to rest at Rosehill Cemetery in Mount Ayr, IA June 19, 2021.
