ROBERT DEAN EVANS

Robert (Bob) Dean Evans, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on October 3, 2021 in Mesa, AZ. Robert was born on August 15, 1934 in Mount Ayr, IA to Roland Keith and Ruth Elizabeth (Hathaway) Evans. Bob was one of nine children.
Bob entered the military in 1954 and served in the Korean War for two years. When he returned from the war, he went to barber school in Des Moines, IA and then returned to Mount Ayr where he opened Bob’s Barber Shop with Bob Smith and barbered for approximately eight years.
On September 21, 1956, Bob was united in marriage to Phyllis Gunter. Of this union two sons were born, Ted and Ron.
In 1965, Bob moved to Red Oak, IA and joined the Iowa Highway Patrol. Bob was really proud of being an Iowa State Trooper and loved serving the public. While working for the Patrol, he was also a volunteer fireman. He retired from the Patrol in 1981.
The family lived on a farm one mile north of Red Oak where they had all kinds of farm animals and grew corn and soybeans. Bob really enjoyed the farm life.
In his retirement, Bob and Phyllis traveled all over the United States and eventually became snowbirds in Mesa, AZ. In 1999, the family sold their farm in Iowa and lived full-time in Arizona.

Bob had many friends and family and was loved by all. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Richard, Beverly, John, Shirley and Janice. His is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Phyllis, his sons, Ted, Ron (Beth), his granddaughters, Mindy Olson and Rachel Whalen. Mindy’s husband, Rollie, and their six children, Ruth, James, Hannah, Silas, Vanessa and Ingrid. Rachel’s husband, Shawn, and their daughter, Ashlyn.
A Memorial Service will be held at Mountain View Funeral Home & Cemetery in Mesa, AZ on October 12 at 10:00 a.m. Mountain View Funeral Home and Cemetery | Mesa, AZ
