The Mount Ayr track and field teams traveled to Maryville, Missouri last Saturday for the NW Bearcat High School Indoor meet.
Mount Ayr was not the only Pride of Iowa school represented at Central Decatur. Lenox, and Nodaway Valley also had athletes at the event.
No team scores were kept for either division. Both teams will be back on the track for their first outdoor meet on Tuesday, April 1 at the Earlham Early Bird meet.
The Raiders had a pair of third-place finishes in relay events.
Mount Ayr placed third in the 4X400-meter relay in 3:34.56 with the team of Garrett Walter, Dyson Thompson, Adan Trujillo, and Jackson Ruggles. The Raiders sprint medley relay team of Tate Dugan, Walter, Ruggles, and Trujillo placed third in a time of 3:46.86.
In field events, Dyson Thompson placed sixth in the long jump with a best attempt of 19-feet, 11.75 inches. Bryson Martin, Garrett Walter, and Rowan Sackett each had top-20 finishes in a field event.
In individual events, Jeremiah Gilliland placed sixth in the 3,200-meter run in 12:31.50 and Bryson Martin placed ninth in the 400-meter dash in 55.64.
On the girl’s side, the Raiderettes had one event first place finish with an Aubree Shields win in the high jump. Shields had a top jump of 5-feet, 3 inches to claim the event.
Mount Ayr had three top-10 finishes from three relay events. The Raiderette’s distance medley relay team placed 4th, its 4X400-meter relay team placed 6th, and its sprint medley relay team placed 7th.
The team of Addison Doolittle, Tatum Friedrich, Ava England, and Ryley Greenwell was fourth in the distance medley relay in 15:44. The 4X400-meter relay team of Friedrich, Doolittle, Ashlyn Murphy, and Shields placed sixth in 4:32.13. Mount Ayr’s sprint medley relay team of MaKel Jones, Brittlynn Nickle, Murphy, and Doolittle placed seventh in 4:48.
In individual events, Tatum Friedrich claimed the top finish in the 800-meter run. Friedrich was sixth in 2:39.47. Ryley Greenland and Brittlyn Nickle each had top-20 finishes in individual events while Jalyn Akers, Murphy, Jones, and Koda Henle each had top-20 finishes in a field event.
