CLARINDA, Iowa — The Mount Ayr Raider boy’s track team competed at the rain shortened Clarinda Cardinal Relays last Thursday. The meet was the first for the Raiders last week after their early week meet was washed out due to weather. The Clarinda meet would start, but not finish as the meet was called after weather moved in late in the afternoon.
At the meet the Raiders top finish came from its sprint medley relay team and its 4×200-meter relay team.
The Mount Ayr sprint medley relay team of Bryson Martin, Tate Dugan, Jackson Ruggles and Drayden Thompson gave Mount Ayr its highest event finish with a runner-up time of 1:39.36. The Raiders 4×200-meter relay team of Thompson, Ruggles, Manny Hyde and Dugan placed third in a time of 1:34.63.
In field events, Jesse Shelman had the top Mount Ayr finish, placing 11th in the discus with a best throw of 113-feet, 10 inches. In individual track events, the Raiders were led by a trio of top-10 finishes. Calvin Main led the way with a sixth place finish in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 17.42. Braylon Greenwell placed seventh in the 3,200-meter run in a time of 11:19.61 and Nathan Roemer was 10th in the 800-meter run in 2:23.86.
Mount Ayr was to run at three meets this week. The first was Monday, April 13 at the Panther Relays in Creston followed by a meet at Clarke on Thursday, April 16.
