CORNING, Iowa — Led by eight events wins, the Mount Ayr girl’s track and field team won the program’s 12th team title at last week’s Pride of Iowa Conference meet. It is Mount Ayr’s first title since 2018.
Mount Ayr won the shot put and high jump in field events; the 100, 200 and 400-meter dash events as well as the 400-meter hurdles in individual events; and the 4×400, and 4×800-meter relays. Mount Ayr won the team title with a score of 166 points. Wayne was second with 150 points and Martnesdale-St. Mary’s was third with 103.5 points. Those three teams were the only ones out of the nine team scoring meet, to top the 100-point mark.
Three event wins not only won the POI title, but held the top-spot in Class 1A going into this week.
Emma Reynolds had a great night as she won the 100-meter dash in 12.38, setting a new school record in the event. Reynolds won the 200-meter dash in 25.59, another school record, a new POI meet record, and that time is currently the top time in Class 1A. Reynolds also won the 400-meter dash in 58.23.  That time also set a new POI record in the event and is the top time in 1A in the event going into this week.
Aubree Shields won a pair of individual events, the high jump and 400-meter hurdles. Shields’ winning 400-meter hurdles time was 1:07.88. Shields’ top jump in the high jump was 5-feet, 7 inches which is a new POI conference meet record and the current top height in Class 1A.
Also in field events, Emily Knox won the shot put with a top throw of 34-feet, 5.5 inches.
The Raiderettes won two relays. The 4×400-meter relay team of Tatum Friedrich, Addison Doolittle, Kacie Larsen and Reynolds won in a time of 4:17.99.  Mount Ayr’s 4×800-meter relay team of Kacie Larsen, Rayley Gilliland, Ava England and Ryley Greenwell won in a time of 11:05.55.
Shields had a pair of runner-up finishes in the 400-meter dash in 59.56 and in the 100-meter hurdles in 16.20. Shields’ time in the 400-meter dash was third all-time in program history and currently No. 4 in Class 1A. Doolittle was third in the 3,000-meter run in 12:20.19.  Chloe Robb captured a pair of top-5 finishes in Mount Ayr program history. Robb was fourth in the 100-meter dash in 12.94, the fourth best time, all-time at Mount Ayr. Robb also was fourth in the 200-meter dash in 26.55 to secure the third fastest time all-time at Mount Ayr.
Other Raiderettes claiming top-10 finishes were Tatum Friedrich and Larsen in the 800-meter run, Doolittle and Greenwell in the 1,500-meter run and Doolittle and Ashlyn Byer in the 3,000-meter run.
Mount Ayr was the runner-up in the 4×100 relay and third in the 4×200, sprint medley and distance medley relays.
